At what age can I take drivers training and be in Segment I class?
You must be at least 14 years & 8 months old, by the first day of class, to be eligible.
How many hours of classroom and behind the wheel instruction do I need?
Students are required to take 24 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction, and earn a score of 80% or higher on the 100 question State Exam.
How do I receive my level 1 license (drivers permit)?
The new student driver will be issued a Segment 1 certificate after passing the State Exam (the certificate is NOT a permit). You will take the Segment 1 certificate, a birth certificate, social security number, and parent/legal guardian to the Secretary of State in order to obtain your level 1 learners permit.
Are there any restrictions on my Level 1 license?
You will drive on your learners permit for a minimum of 6 months or until you are 16 (which ever comes later). On the level 1 permit, a licensed adult 21 or over must accompany you at all times while operating a vehicle.
When can I take Segment II?
You are eligible to take Segment II, 90 days after your level 1 license/permit is issued to you. The State of Michigan requires that you obtain 30 hours (2 night hours) of driving practice. Segment II consists of 6 hours of classroom instruction. After completion, the student will receive a Segment 2 certificate.
When do I receive my Level 2 license?
The student must take a road test, present the Segment 2 certificate, have a minimum of 6 months driving at level 1, and complete the required 50 hours of practice driving, of which 10 hours must be at night.
Does Macomb Driving Academy perform Road Test?
No we do not, there are 3rd party road testers that perform the road test.
